Notice of Defensive Driving School Option
If you have been charged with a minor moving traffic offense, you may be eligible
to complete a defensive driving course, and have your case dismissed upon payment
of court cost. Doing so will prevent the accrual of points assessed against your
Alabama Driver's license as a result of this offense.
To determine your eligibility and enroll in the defensive driving course, you must
contact the District Court Judge's office at least 5 days prior to the court date listed on
your citation at
Instructions for Paying Traffic Citations
SPECIAL NOTE TO YOUNG DRIVERS:
Most citations issued to a minor under age 18 CANNOT BE PAID in advance. The District
Court Judge requires that the minor appear, with a parent, prior to the scheduled
court date. To schedule an appointment, call the District Court Judge's office at 256-574-9355,
as soon as possible after receiving the citation (must be prior to court date).
Your ticket will have the date on which you will need to appear in court. ALL traffic
tickets are scheduled for court on Fridays at 8:30 am.
You MUST either come to court on the date shown on your ticket
or pay the ticket BEFORE your court date. If you fail to appear
in court on the date shown on your traffic ticket or to pay the ticket BEFORE
your court date, the following things will happen WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE TO YOU:
- A warrant will be issued for your arrest.
- Your driver's license will be suspended and it cannot be reinstated until the
ticket is cleared and a reinstatement fee is paid.
- A new charge of failure to appear may be made against you.
- The fine is subject to being increased.
- Any bond you have posted will be forfeited.
If you have been charged with one of the offenses listed at the Alabama Traffic
Service Center (See link below) and would like to pay the fine and cost without
having to appear in court you can mail full payment to the address below. NO
PERSONAL CHECKS WILL BE ACCEPTED. To avoid being charged with failure
to appear in Court, your payment must reach the clerk no later than the morning
of your court date. Mail a MONEY ORDER or CASHIER'S CHECK payable
to Ken Ferrell, Circuit Clerk to the address below:
